Dying to Live Here

Emma Stewart is witty, sarcastic, and perpetually loyal to her dissimilar best friend, Laura Benton, despite her knack for getting them both into trouble. Though she has a successful (albeit boring) career as a web developer, Emma lacks self-esteem and finds it difficult to trust anyone besides Laura. She has relied on sarcastic wit and cynicism to avoid romantic entanglements ever since a brief marriage to her college boyfriend years earlier.

Laura lives in a desirable beachside neighborhood in the coastal Florida town of Costa Verde, and she longs for Emma to live there too. However, available homes in this community are hard to come by. When Laura learns of a pending listing, she sneaks Emma into the vacant house at night for an unauthorized showing, only to find it’s not vacant after all—it contains the body of Rose Martin, the former president of the homeowners’ association with a knife in her back.
